When it comes to summertime, who doesn’t love to host BBQ’s and entertain hungry friends outside? It’s important to stay health-conscious! When you want to have fun with your guests while still eating healthy – grilling is the perfect way to go!
Planning delicious and healthy menus can be as easy as 1, 2, 3:
1. Grilling can be an excellent way to cook low-fat. Instead of throwing high fat hot dogs, brats, processed burgers and fatty meats onto the grill, opt for marinated chicken breasts, fish, or veggie burgers, which are lower in fat.
2. Add more to the grill and expand your taste buds! Grilled fruits and vegetables serve as great side dishes or as toppings for your BBQ plate. Vegetable kabobs are appealing and a great way to get the kids helping with the prep work!
Not only do fruits and vegetables add variety to your menu, but they are filled with essential nutrients, improving the nutrition of your meal. Some favorites include red and yellow bell peppers, eggplant, zucchini, asparagus, onions, whole tomatoes, portobello mushrooms, pineapple, plantains, watermelon, and stone fruits, such as peaches.
3. Use a rack! Using a rack helps the fat from the meat, poultry, or fish drip away from the food, reducing the extra fat calories that you are eating.
